At Buckden Pre-school, we offer a curriculum based upon the Early Years Foundation Stage which covers children from birth to the end of school Reception Year. We achieve this by providing appropriate play activities, encouraging independence and social skills. Each child will have activities planned around their needs and interests and we promote both child-initiated and adult-led experiences. Language, communication and numeracy skills are included as part of our daily curriculum. Alongside this children will also cover topics such as 'Ourselves', 'Transport', Mini-beasts', etc. Parents are informed about the topics as part of the monthly newsletter.
The Early Years Foundation Stage is organised into six areas of learning called 'Early Learning Goals', which are as follows:
-
Personal and Social Development
-
Communication, Language and Literacy
-
Problem-Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
-
Knowledge and Understanding of the World
-
Physical Development
-
Creative Development
These Early Learning Goals and the Early Years Foundation Stage are described more fully in our prospectus, a copy of which is available upon request to the supervisor.
